Education Unit
Theatre opens up the imagination; you can put yourself in someone else’s shoes, tell and retell stories, listen, observe and make connections, it’s life changing, it’s fun and it’s happening now.
Auckland Theatre Company brings learning alive for over 10,000 young people, their teachers and families every year. Each play in the schools’ programme has a school matinee performance followed by a post-show forum and is supported by education packs and workshops designed for students and teachers.
Young people who want to learn more about theatre can get involved in the annual ATC SUMMER SCHOOL or the ATC AMBASSADOR PROGRAMME and if they’ve got energy to burn they can take part in the YOUNG & HUNGRY FESTIVAL OF NEW THEATRE in July. Aspiring playwrights and theatre-makers can create memorable scenes and monologues through the MAD, BAD and DANGEROUS TO KNOW outreach project in May.

YOUNG & HUNGRY FESTIVAL OF NEW THEATRE
By popular demand this exciting festival is back! Showcasing three new New Zealand plays written specifically for 15 – 25 year olds - Young and Hungry offers theatre-obsessed young Aucklanders the opportunity to be actors, designers, stage managers, publicists and backstage crew whilst being mentored by professional theatre practitioners. Local audiences have the chance to see fresh new work close up in an exclusive season at The Basement – spread your viewing across the season or do the marathon and see all three plays in one night.
Produced in association with the Young and Hungry Arts Trust (Wellington), the festival takes place simultaneously in both cities. Discover Auckland’s exciting young talent and tomorrow’s stars!
Thank you for your interest. The season and registrations have now closed. Watch this space next year.
