Supporting emerging theatre technicians

ATC Techies Club is a hands-on programme for rangatahi to participate behind the scenes of a professional theatre company.

ATC Techies Club is a free, part-time programme designed for beginners and tech-curious young people. No prior experience is required.

ATC Techies Club is part of ATC Youth Arts, which creates supportive learning spaces where young people can grow their creativity, confidence and sense of belonging.

We're looking for ten young people for ATC Techies Club.

To apply, you should be in Year 12 or Year 13, or aged 16-20 and not in employment, education or training. 

We are looking for ten young people who are:

  • Either in years 12 or 13 at school or kura, or aged between 16-20 and not in employment, education or training
  • Curious about backstage and production work
  • Based in Tāmaki Makaurau for the duration of the programme
  • Available for the full set of programme dates

We welcome participants of all identities, cultural backgrounds and experience levels. No prior technical training is required.

Cost: Absolutely free

  • Tuesday 7 April 4:00pm-9:30pm (Villa Maria Gallery, ASB Waterfront Theatre)
    • Introductions, programme orientation, backstage tour of the ASB Waterfront Theatre, and watching Helen Clark in Six Outfits (FREE).
  • Tuesday 5 May 6:30pm-9:30pm (ATC Balmoral Rehearsal Studios)
    • Meet the Youth Company, explore the technical set-up of ATC's rehearsal rooms, learn about roles & responsibilities in theatre.
  • Tuesday 2 June 6:30pm-9:30pm (ATC Balmoral Rehearsal Studios)
    • Watch the dress rehearsal of the Youth Company scene showings.
  • Tuesday 9 June (TBC Timing & Location)
    • Scene showing performance for the Youth Company. An optional opportunity to stage manage or technically operate the Youth Company's public scene showings.
  • Sunday 14 June 10:00am-5:00pm TBC (ASB Waterfront Theatre)
    • Participate in a mainstage pack-in from start to finish.
  • June (Date, Time & Location TBC)
    • A visit somewhere beyond our usual spaces. Details TBC within the group.
