Sensory Relaxed & Pre-show Demonstration

As part of ATC's commitment to make theatre accessible to all, we are launching a trial sensory relaxed performance programme to welcome neurodivergent and autistic audience members and those with sensory needs. This new programme is being developed with guidance from autistic professionals and community members, and we welcome feedback and engagement as we build this pilot programme.

Sensory Relaxed Performance

The story, characters, lights and sound of the sensory relaxed show are unchanged from our standard performances. Instead, to make the show more accessible, we provide show specific resources, pre-show demonstrations, breakout space, the ability for audience to come and go, and more to create a comfortable and inclusive experience which may be especially welcomed by autistic and neurodivergent audience members. Everyone is invited to come as you are and to choose what support and preparation is right for you. Check out the Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about show specific resources, support options, and how this show is different. Check out the Theatre Guidelines for detailed information about how to attend a sensory relaxed performance.

Pre-show Demonstration

Taking place 90 minutes before the performance, the pre-show demonstration welcomes patrons into the theatre to check out the lights, sound, and technical elements of the show. Surprises and startling show moments will be demonstrated so patrons know what to expect during the show. They may also have a chance to meet the show’s actors. Pre-show demonstrations are for autistic and neurodivergent patrons, or those needed extra information to fully enjoy the show, and their companions.

Access Tickets

Deaf/hard-of-hearing patrons, blind/low-vision patrons, and autistic and neurodivergent patrons can get $20 tickets to NZSL-Interpreted, Audio-Described, and Sensory Relaxed performances. One companion ticket per theatre-goer is also available for $20.
